Reclinker Raises £10M Series A Led by Clean Growth Fund to Scale Low-Carbon Cement
Reclinker Secures £10M Series A
Reclinker, a University of Cambridge climate-tech spinout formerly known as Cambridge Electric Cement, has raised a £10 million Series A round. The round was led by Clean Growth Fund and included participation from AP Ventures, Development Bank of Wales, Zero Carbon Capital, Cambridge Enterprise, and Kibo Investments.
What Reclinker Does
Reclinker is developing a process that recycles waste concrete into fresh low-carbon cement. Its core innovation substitutes recovered cement paste for the lime flux used in the electric arc furnaces that recycle steel. This co-produces recycled clinker while avoiding the kiln energy and calcination emissions associated with conventional Portland cement.
The company is commercialising the technology with UK industrial partners as a low-capex, drop-in replacement for CEM I cement.
Why It Matters
Cement production is a significant source of global carbon emissions, largely due to the energy-intensive kiln process and the calcination of limestone. Reclinker's approach aims to address both by integrating recycled cement paste into existing electric arc furnace steel recycling operations. The result is a recycled clinker that can be used in new cement without the emissions profile of traditional manufacturing.
Commercialisation Path
Reclinker is working with UK industrial partners to bring its technology to market. The company describes its solution as a low-capex, drop-in replacement for CEM I cement, meaning it can be adopted without major changes to existing production infrastructure. This positions Reclinker to serve cement producers and steel recyclers looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Funding Details
- Round: Series A
- Amount: £10,000,000
- Date: October 5, 2026
- Lead Investor: Clean Growth Fund
- Additional Investors: AP Ventures, Development Bank of Wales, Zero Carbon Capital, Cambridge Enterprise, Kibo Investments
Acquisition Angle
The Series A funding provides Reclinker with capital to advance its technology and commercial partnerships. For acquirers in the construction materials, industrial decarbonisation, or climate-tech sectors, Reclinker represents a potential opportunity to gain access to a proprietary process for low-carbon cement production. The involvement of Clean Growth Fund and other climate-focused investors signals confidence in the technology's scalability and environmental impact.
As the company moves from spinout to commercial scale, its progress with UK industrial partners will be a key indicator of its readiness for broader adoption. The funding will likely support further pilot deployments, team expansion, and continued R&D to optimise the process for industrial-scale operations.
