Cura Raises $10M Series A to Scale Electrochemical Cement Decarbonization
Cura Secures $10M Series A
Calgary-based cleantech company Cura has raised a $10 million Series A round, the company announced on September 17, 2026. The round was led by Zacua Ventures, with participation from Amplify Capital, UCeed, Vantage Futures, Sandpiper Ventures, Mount Rundle Club, and Sebastian Becker.
What Cura Does
CURA Climate is developing electrochemical technology that electrifies the core limestone-decomposition step of cement production. By replacing high-temperature combustion, the process aims to cut cement emissions by up to 85%. The technology yields a low-carbon calcium product and a concentrated CO2 stream that integrate with existing cement and lime plants. It is designed to work with varied feedstocks, including lower-purity limestone and industrial waste streams.
From Pilot to Commercial Demonstration
Founded in 2025, Cura is moving from a 100-tonne-per-year pilot plant with Grand Forks Concrete toward a 30,000-tonne-per-year commercial demonstration facility. The company has partners and MOUs across the cement and construction value chain, including ACCIONA and Aecon.
Why It Matters
Cement production is a hard-to-abate sector, and Cura's approach targets one of its most emissions-intensive steps. The Series A funding will support the company's transition to larger-scale demonstration, a critical phase for validating the technology with industrial partners.
The Investors
Zacua Ventures led the round, joined by Amplify Capital, UCeed, Vantage Futures, Sandpiper Ventures, Mount Rundle Club, and Sebastian Becker. The mix of venture and strategic backers reflects confidence in Cura's path to commercial deployment.
Outlook
With the new capital, Cura is positioned to advance its commercial demonstration facility and deepen partnerships across the cement and construction value chain. The company's progress from pilot to commercial scale will be a key signal for the sector's decarbonization efforts.
