Eevi Raises Pre-Seed Funding Led by Rockstart for Voice-First AI Language Tutor
Eevi Secures Pre-Seed Backing from Rockstart
Eevi, an Amsterdam-based edtech startup building a voice-first AI language tutor, has raised pre-seed funding led by Rockstart. The round was announced on September 22, 2026. Rockstart is the sole investor listed in the round.
What Eevi Does
Eevi (eevi.ai) is developing an AI language tutor that teaches through real-time spoken conversation rather than the tap-and-swipe drills common to gamified learning apps. The company's thesis is that language acquisition happens most naturally through live dialogue, and its product is designed around that premise.
The curriculum draws on more than 15 academic frameworks. The platform adapts to each learner using per-user memory, meaning the tutor retains context about an individual's progress and tailors instruction accordingly. Eevi supports 14 languages.
Company Background
Eevi was founded in 2025 by Filemon Schoffer, previously a co-founder of Hubs.com, and CTO Jago Gazendam. Before its public launch, the company ran a six-month closed beta with around 100 advanced learners. Eevi is now available on iOS, Android, and web.
The founding team's background — Schoffer's experience scaling a marketplace business at Hubs.com and Gazendam's technical leadership — gives the company a blend of operational and engineering experience as it moves from beta into broader market release.
Why the Round Matters
The pre-seed round, led by Rockstart, provides Eevi with capital as it transitions from a closed beta to a multi-platform product. Rockstart is an Amsterdam-based accelerator and early-stage investor, which aligns geographically with Eevi's base and its stage of development.
Language learning is a large and competitive category, but Eevi's differentiation is specific: voice-first, conversational instruction powered by AI, with per-user memory and a curriculum grounded in established academic frameworks. That positioning separates it from drill-based apps and from general-purpose AI chatbots that lack structured pedagogy.
Acquisition Angle
Eevi sits at the intersection of two active M&A themes: AI-native consumer applications and digital education. Potential strategic interest could come from:
- Language learning platforms seeking conversational AI capabilities to complement existing drill-based products
- Edtech consolidators building portfolios of AI-powered learning tools
- Consumer AI companies looking to add structured, voice-driven educational experiences
- Publishers and education providers expanding into direct-to-learner digital products
At the pre-seed stage, Eevi is early. But the combination of a voice-first product, a multi-language footprint (14 languages), and a founding team with prior startup experience makes it a company worth tracking as it scales beyond its initial beta cohort.
What to Watch
Key indicators for Eevi will be user growth following its iOS, Android, and web launch, retention driven by its per-user memory system, and whether its conversational approach translates into measurable learning outcomes. The backing of Rockstart provides both capital and early-stage support as the company builds out its platform.
For observers of the edtech and applied AI markets, Eevi represents a bet that the next generation of language learning will be spoken, not tapped.
