Zap Surgical raises $11M Series C+ from Baheal Pharmaceutical

Zap Surgical Raises $11M Series C+ Round

Zap Surgical Systems, a San Carlos, California-based medical device company, has raised $11 million in a Series C+ round. Baheal Pharmaceutical (百洋医药) participated in the round.

What Zap Surgical Does

Zap Surgical manufactures the ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery platform, a non-invasive robotic system for stereotactic radiosurgery of brain and head-and-neck tumors. The ZAP-X is the first dedicated cranial radiosurgery system designed to operate without a shielded radiation vault, replacing Cobalt-60 sources with a linear accelerator.

The company was founded in 2014 by Stanford neurosurgery professor John R. Adler.

Regulatory Milestones

The ZAP-X platform has accumulated a series of regulatory clearances across major markets:

  • United States: FDA clearance in 2017
  • Japan: clearance in 2020
  • European Union: clearance in 2021
  • China: NMPA innovative-product registration in 2023

Commercial Footprint

ZAP-X has been installed at eight Chinese hospitals and recently debuted in Australia and Thailand. Qingdao-listed Baheal Pharmaceutical holds exclusive commercialization rights for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Round Details

  • Round type: Series C+
  • Amount raised: $11,000,000 USD
  • Participating investors: Baheal Pharmaceutical (百洋医药)
  • Announced: September 22, 2026

Why It Matters

The Series C+ round deepens the relationship between Zap Surgical and Baheal Pharmaceutical, which already holds exclusive commercialization rights for the ZAP-X platform across mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. The additional capital comes as the company's installed base in China reaches eight hospitals and the platform expands into new markets including Australia and Thailand.

Zap Surgical's vault-free design is a distinguishing feature in the cranial radiosurgery category, removing the need for the shielded radiation vaults traditionally required for Cobalt-60-based systems. That design choice has supported the platform's regulatory progress across the US, Japan, the EU and China.

Outlook

With the Series C+ funding and an established commercialization partner in China, Zap Surgical is positioned to continue expanding the ZAP-X installed base across existing and newly entered markets.
