Zap Surgical Systems is a San Carlos, California-based medical device company founded in 2014 by Stanford neurosurgery professor John R. Adler. It manufactures the ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery platform, a non-invasive robotic system for stereotactic radiosurgery of brain and head-and-neck tumors and the first dedicated cranial radiosurgery system to operate without a shielded radiation vault, replacing Cobalt-60 sources with a linear accelerator. Cleared by the US FDA in 2017, Japan in 2020 and the EU in 2021, with China NMPA innovative-product registration in 2023, ZAP-X has been installed at eight Chinese hospitals and recently debuted in Australia and Thailand; Qingdao-listed Baheal Pharmaceutical holds exclusive commercialization rights for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
