MOA Foodtech Secures €3.3M Series B
Spanish biotechnology company MOA Foodtech (MOA Biotech S.L.) has raised €3.3 million in Series B funding. The round was led by the European Commission’s European Innovation Council Fund, with participation from CDTI Innvierte and Swanlaab Innvierte Agrifood-Tech. The funding date is September 3, 2026.
What MOA Foodtech Does
MOA Foodtech produces next-generation functional ingredients by fermenting agrifood byproducts and side streams with proprietary non-GMO yeast strains. The process is guided by its patented AI platform, Albatros, which matches microorganisms to feedstocks and optimises fermentation conditions in near real time.
The company’s ingredient portfolio includes:
- MOA Q5 – a multifunctional egg replacer and emulsifier for sauces and bakery.
- MOA Yeast – a taste, texture and nutrition booster.
- MOA Yeast FeG – for pet food and animal nutrition.
These ingredients are produced by a CDMO partner in Spain and sold as biomass powders directly to food and pet food manufacturers through an in-house sales team.
Business Model and Additional Programmes
Beyond ingredient sales, MOA Foodtech runs co-development and licensing programmes, including the turnkey MOA Box. The company is also developing postbiotic and nutraceutical ingredients.
Leadership and Location
MOA Foodtech is based in Madrid and was founded by CEO Bosco Emparanza, CSO Susana Sánchez and CFO José María Elorza.
Acquisition Perspective
The Series B round provides MOA Foodtech with capital to scale its fermentation platform and expand its ingredient portfolio. For potential acquirers in the food-tech, biotech or specialty ingredients sectors, the company offers proprietary non-GMO yeast strains, an AI-driven optimisation platform and a growing range of functional ingredients targeting egg replacement, taste and texture enhancement, and pet nutrition. Its direct sales model and co-development programmes create multiple entry points for strategic partnerships or acquisition.
