Golbriak Space raises €4M seed to scale compact laser communication terminals
Golbriak Space Secures €4M Seed Round
Tallinn-based aerospace company Golbriak Space has raised €4 million in seed funding, the company announced on October 7, 2026. The round was led by JOIN Capital, with participation from PhotonVentures and Takeoff Accelerator.
What Golbriak Space Does
Founded in 2017, Golbriak Space develops compact laser communication terminals for small satellites, aircraft, and drones. Its product lines—ERMES, ERMES+, and ARES—transmit data over narrow optical beams at rates starting from 2.5 Gbps.
The terminals are designed with software-configurable hardware and relaxed pointing requirements, making them easier to integrate and suitable for mass production. This approach targets distributed satellite missions where size, weight, and power constraints are critical.
In addition to its hardware, Golbriak Space offers an optical downlink service, providing customers with an end-to-end data transmission capability.
Founding and Origins
The company was founded by Nicola Garzaniti and Simone Briatore following a Copernicus Masters-winning CubeSat project. That early recognition helped validate the technical foundation that Golbriak Space now commercializes.
Why This Matters for Acquisition
The laser communication market for small satellites is gaining traction as constellations proliferate and demand for high-bandwidth, secure data links grows. Golbriak Space's focus on compact, mass-producible terminals positions it as a potential target for larger aerospace primes, satellite operators, or defense contractors looking to vertically integrate optical communication capabilities.
The seed funding will likely accelerate product development, manufacturing scale-up, and customer acquisition—all factors that could make the company more attractive to acquirers in the coming years.
