mika raises €5.7M Seed led by Smedvig Ventures for AI-native financial OS

mika Raises €5.7M in Seed Funding

mika (Get Mika GmbH), the Berlin-based fintech building an AI-native financial operating system for German small businesses, has raised €5,700,000 in Seed funding. The round was led by Smedvig Ventures.

What mika Does

mika targets German small businesses, particularly GmbHs and UGs, with a platform that automates ongoing bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts and tax filings. At its core is an AI-native general ledger built specifically for German accounting.

Trained accountants review the results produced by the platform, and customers can query their finances directly in the app or through assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude via the Model Context Protocol.

Customer Base and Expansion

mika initially focused on digital-first service businesses such as agencies and consultancies. It has since expanded into SaaS, property, e-commerce, retail and skilled trades. The company now serves more than 800 companies.

Why It Matters

German accounting is notoriously complex, with strict requirements around bookkeeping, VAT and annual filings. mika's approach pairs an AI-native general ledger purpose-built for that regulatory environment with human accountants who review outputs — a hybrid model that aims to combine automation with compliance.

The ability to query financial data through external assistants via the Model Context Protocol points to a broader bet on AI-native interfaces for financial workflows, rather than a traditional dashboard-only experience.

What to Watch

With more than 800 companies already on the platform and a customer base that has widened from digital-first service businesses into SaaS, property, e-commerce, retail and skilled trades, mika is testing how far its German-accounting-focused platform can stretch across small-business segments.

The Seed round, led by Smedvig Ventures and joined by a group of venture funds and angel investors, gives the company capital to continue developing its AI-native financial operating system.
