Sunshiki Co., Ltd. (株式会社サンシキ) is a Kochi University spin-off founded in February 2024 and based in Tokyo that develops land-based cultivation and processing technology for seaweed. Its first product focus is cattle-feed supplements made from the native red seaweed Asparagopsis (カギケノリ), which research shows sharply cuts the methane cattle emit; the company has already achieved stable production in commercial-scale test tanks and filed domestic and international patents. Selected for Japans Ministry of the Environment startup support program and J-Startup WEST, it aims to build a broader seaweed platform spanning food, materials, and energy.
