Bekia is a Cairo-based waste-technology startup founded by Alaa Afifi that digitises Egypt's informal recycling trade. It began as a consumer app for booking household waste pickups with benchmark-rate weighing and digital payment, and has evolved into a transaction layer connecting informal collectors, households and industrial recycling plants. The company monetises through corporate waste contracts, margins on material sales and a refurbished electronics line, and reports more than 25,000 tonnes diverted from landfill, 2,400-plus collectors onboarded and 100,000 retail clients.
