Overview
This skill monitors trending content across Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok and generates a consolidated cross-platform trend report. It helps creators and marketers discover content ideas, spot emerging topics, and identify marketing opportunities. Reports are saved locally for historical comparison.
How this skill works
The skill runs parallel searches on Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok, extracts top items (titles, hashtags, sounds, metrics), and ranks the top 10 per platform. It then aggregates overlaps, highlights platform-specific patterns, and produces a Markdown trend report with insights and actionable recommendations. Reports are persisted locally for later comparison and analysis.
When to use it
- Quick daily check of what’s trending across major social platforms
- Find cross-platform content ideas for short-form video or social posts
- Monitor a specific vertical (tech, entertainment, lifestyle, etc.)
- Spot marketing opportunities and creator collaborations
- Generate a saved report for team review or campaign planning
Best practices
- Specify target platforms and vertical to narrow results and improve relevance
- Use short time ranges (today/this week) for freshness or month for trend stability
- Combine quantitative metrics (views/upvotes/posts) with qualitative notes for actionable insights
- Save and compare daily reports to detect rising or fading trends
- Treat Instagram and TikTok data as indicative when APIs or logged-in views are limited
Example use cases
- Daily trend digest: generate a morning report summarizing top Reddit posts, Instagram hashtags, and TikTok sounds
- Creative briefing: find trending TikTok formats and matching Instagram hashtags to plan a cross-post series
- Vertical deep dive: monitor tech discussions across r/technology and #techtok to surface content angles
- Campaign ideation: identify recurring themes across platforms to shape a multi-channel promotion
- Competitive scouting: track which creators and sounds are gaining momentum in a niche
FAQ
No. It relies on public search results and indexed pages; private or login-gated content is not accessible.
How fresh are the trends?
Freshness depends on search engine indexing. Use the 'today' time range for the most current snapshot; expect some delay for new content.
Where are reports stored?
Reports are saved locally under a configurable cache directory (default: ~/.claude/cache/social-trends/) with date-stamped filenames.
