Overview
This skill helps you research and define a clear visual direction before creating assets. It guides you from gathering references to documenting a repeatable style guide so every asset aligns with your brand. Use it to ensure consistency across product photography, social graphics, and brand assets.
How this skill works
The skill runs a three-layer process: visual research to collect inspiration and identify common patterns; style definition to produce a concise Brand Aesthetic Profile and style guide; and a consistency framework to validate assets against your aesthetic. It converts the style guide into actionable prompt parameters for image generation and other creative automations.
When to use it
- Establishing or refreshing brand aesthetics
- Before briefing photographers or designers
- Prior to automated image generation or creative automation
- When creating a style guide for multi-channel campaigns
- Setting up on-boarding for external creative teams
Best practices
- Start with 10–15 reference images: 5–10 in-industry and 5–10 outside for inspiration
- Document 3–5 primary colors with hex codes for exact matches
- Define lighting, composition, and detail level explicitly (e.g., studio lighting, rule of thirds, highly detailed)
- Create prohibited elements to avoid inconsistent results
- Test 3–5 variations and iterate the style guide based on outputs
Example use cases
- E-commerce product photography: define lighting, background, and composition for consistent catalog images
- Tech startup marketing: establish minimalist illustration rules and color accents for social ads
- Personal brand portraits: set warm tones, natural lighting, and composition rules for headshots
- Campaign launches: create a secondary or accent style for limited-time promotions
- Automated asset pipelines: feed the style guide into image-generation tools to produce organized assets
FAQ
Be as specific as possible on style, color hex codes, lighting, composition, and prohibited elements; more detail yields more consistent results.
Can I have multiple styles for one brand?
Yes — define a primary style for core identity, a secondary style for variety, and an accent style for campaigns or seasonal use.
