Overview
This skill brainstorms and ranks 3–5 iOS/macOS app ideas tailored to a developer's skills, interests, platform choices, and constraints. It returns a concise, ranked shortlist with feasibility scores, monetization suggestions, MVP scope, and a ready-to-run product-agent discover command for validation.
How this skill works
It first elicits a developer profile (languages, frameworks, domains, platform targets, time availability, constraints). It generates ideas using five lenses—skills, problem-first, technology-first, market gap, and trends—then filters, scores, and ranks ideas by feasibility and fit. The final output is a compact shortlist formatted to feed product-agent discover for rapid validation.
When to use it
- You don’t have an app idea and ask “what should I build?” or “I don’t know what to build”.
- You want ideas matched to your Swift/Apple platform skills (SwiftUI, HealthKit, WidgetKit, etc.).
- You need a short, validated set of solo-ship MVPs to pick from.
- You want ideas that leverage specific Apple frameworks or recent trends (AI-native, ActivityKit, VisionKit).
- You’re stuck after abandoning an idea and need fresh directions.
Best practices
- Provide a short developer profile (skills, interests, target platforms, time budget, constraints) for personalized results.
- Prefer selecting ideas that match 2+ of your existing skills to shorten MVP time.
- Validate the top idea with product-agent discover before building to confirm demand.
- Aim for 3–8 week MVPs for solo developers; avoid six-month projects unless you have a team.
- Use the provided next_step command to instantly run discovery and gather market feedback.
Example use cases
- Side-project developer with SwiftUI and HealthKit skills asks for three viable fitness app ideas.
- Mac developer curious what to build using Foundation Models and M-series Neural Engine.
- Solo iOS developer with no backend experience seeks offline-first app ideas that fit 4–8 week scope.
- Designer-developer duo wants ranked ideas that highlight WidgetKit and Live Activities opportunities.
- Developer wants ideas focused on underserved App Store categories and clear monetization paths.
FAQ
A short profile: languages/frameworks, domain interests, target Apple platforms, weekly time budget, and any constraints (solo, no backend, limited design).
How many ideas will I get?
A ranked shortlist of 3–5 ideas, plus 1–3 filtered-out concepts with reasons. Each idea includes feasibility scores, monetization, MVP scope, and a product-agent discover command.
Will ideas be realistic for one developer?
Yes. Ideas are filtered for solo-dev scope and prioritize projects that can ship an MVP in 4–8 weeks when possible.
