Overview

This skill builds and maintains one coherent company story across all audiences — employees, investors, customers, candidates, and partners. It preserves factual consistency while tailoring the frame and emphasis for each audience’s needs. Use it to detect narrative contradictions, prepare communications, and keep trust intact across internal and external touchpoints.

How this skill works

I create a single concise core narrative that acts as the source of truth. From that core, I translate messaging for each audience using an audience-translation matrix and flag any contradictions between past communications. I also provide cadence recommendations, all-hands structure, crisis protocols, and a checklist to validate consistency before publication.

When to use it

  • Preparing investor updates or board memos
  • Drafting all-hands presentations or team updates
  • Writing customer-facing product messages or release notes
  • Recruiting messaging and careers page updates
  • Managing urgent or unexpected crises and internal alerts
  • Auditing messaging for consistency across channels

Best practices

  • Write one clear core narrative first; everything else derives from it
  • Frame the same facts differently without changing truth — be explicit about what differs
  • Run a contradiction check against recent investor, employee, and public communications
  • Communicate internally first for any public-facing incident; use the 4-hour rule in crises
  • Correct inconsistencies openly: acknowledge prior wording, then update the record
  • Keep a regular cadence for each audience and name an owner for each communication type

Example use cases

  • Turn a product pivot into tailored messages: all-hands script, investor note, customer FAQ, and hiring pitch
  • Prepare a monthly investor update that aligns with the latest all-hands and website copy
  • Run a pre-release contradiction audit to ensure press, marketing, and sales say the same truth
  • Execute rapid internal-first crisis communication when a public incident occurs
  • Create a hiring narrative and careers page that matches the employee experience and interview messaging

FAQ

Start from a single core narrative and use an audience translation matrix; audit recent communications and correct the less accurate version when you find a mismatch.

What should I do if employees and investors already have different views?

Identify which version reflects current reality, correct the other audience’s messaging transparently, and explain why the update is honest and necessary.
