Overview

This skill creates ATS-optimized resumes and CVs with clear structure, measurable achievements, and industry targeting. It converts raw career data into concise, keyword-rich documents that pass applicant tracking systems and appeal to hiring managers. The output supports both resume (industry) and CV (academic) formats and enforces best-practice length and formatting rules.

How this skill works

Provide role history, achievements, skills, education, target industry, and the job description or posting. The skill applies the CAR formula to craft impact-focused bullets, quantifies accomplishments where possible, and maps keywords from the job description into natural language. It formats sections for ATS compatibility, categorizes technical skills or portfolio links by industry, and exports a text-selectable PDF-ready layout.

When to use it

  • Applying to industry jobs where an ATS will screen applications
  • Preparing an academic CV for research, fellowship, or grant applications
  • Updating a resume to highlight measurable achievements and promotion outcomes
  • Creating role-targeted resumes for multiple job applications
  • Condensing senior experience into recruiter-friendly 1-2 page resumes

Best practices

  • Use the CAR formula: Action + Task + Result with metrics in every bullet
  • Keep standard headers (Work Experience, Education, Skills) and avoid tables/columns
  • Include both acronyms and full names (e.g., AWS (Amazon Web Services))
  • Limit bullets to 3–5 per role and prioritize highest-impact achievements
  • Provide live links for GitHub or portfolio immediately after name for tech/design roles

Example use cases

  • Turn a long career history into a focused 2-page senior software engineer resume with scale metrics and cloud skills
  • Generate a research CV that lists publications, grants, and teaching experience without page limits
  • Create multiple tailored resumes for the same candidate keyed to different job descriptions
  • Convert internship and project details into strong bullets for an entry-level 1-page resume
  • Produce an ATS-safe PDF with selectable text and correct filename for final submission

FAQ

Use a resume for industry roles (US/Canada) and a CV for academic, research, medical, or EU/UK applications.

How many bullets per role are recommended?

Limit to 3–5 bullets per role, starting with the most impactful, quantified achievements.

What formatting breaks ATS parsing?

Avoid tables, columns, headers/footers with critical info, images, and special symbols; use standard fonts and headers.
