- SKILL.md5.8 KB
Overview
This skill generates structured, client-ready competitive analysis reports that include feature comparisons, pricing analysis, SWOT, and strategic recommendations. It automates research, compiles findings into Markdown and HTML, and produces spreadsheet-ready matrices and an executive summary. Use it to deliver consistent, presentation-quality competitive intelligence quickly.
How this skill works
The skill accepts a primary product and 2–5 competitors or a brief input file, then researches each company using publicly available sources to extract product overviews, features, pricing, target markets, positioning, and recent changes. It builds a feature comparison matrix (minimum 10 features), a pricing table, per-competitor SWOTs, a market positioning map, and prioritized recommendations, then writes outputs to a structured output folder in Markdown, HTML, CSV, and an executive summary. All assumptions are labeled and sources are listed in the appendix.
When to use it
- Preparing market research or pitch materials for investors or executives
- Benchmarking your product against direct competitors before roadmap planning
- Validating pricing strategy and identifying value gaps
- Creating client deliverables for competitive intelligence engagements
- Monitoring new entrants or major competitor moves
Best practices
- Provide the exact product name and 2–5 competitors for focused results
- Review and approve labeled assumptions before presenting to stakeholders
- Use the feature matrix as a living document and update quarterly
- Cross-check pricing and recent changes against official vendor pages
- Customize recommendations to your target segment and measurable KPIs
Example use cases
- A SaaS founder comparing three rivals to prioritize a 90-day roadmap
- A product manager preparing a pricing repositioning brief for leadership
- An agency delivering a competitive intelligence pack to a new client
- A strategy team scanning the market for acquisition targets
- A marketing team creating messaging that exploits competitor weaknesses
FAQ
A primary product name plus 2–5 competitor names, or a brief text file describing the client and scope.
What output files are produced?
report.md, report.html, executive-summary.md, and feature-matrix.csv saved under output/competitor-analysis/.
How current is the pricing data?
Pricing is pulled from public sources at run time; the report clearly timestamps pricing and flags any assumptions.
