Overview
This skill provides a systematic, multi-pass review and editing service for scientific manuscripts, including research articles, reviews, perspectives, and short communications. It focuses on sharpening the core message, improving logical flow, and raising standards of scientific rigor and language so drafts approach publication readiness. The output is an edited manuscript with clear suggestions, tracked changes, and a concise commentary on major issues.
How this skill works
I first identify the manuscript type and extract the one core message readers should remember. I run structural, results, discussion, scientific-clarity, language, and formatting passes, using per-section templates and checklists to find missing context, unsupported claims, unclear transitions, and statistical gaps. Deliverables include line-edits, flagged revisions, a summary of major vs minor issues, and a checklist for journal compliance or revision planning.
When to use it
- Drafting research manuscripts, reviews, or perspectives
- Before journal submission for a final polish
- Responding to reviewer comments and revision cycles
- Mentoring or co-author review of a collaborator's draft
- Adapting a manuscript to a new journal or format
Best practices
- State the single core message up front and use it to guide edits
- Follow the Introduction Arc: broad context → gap → objective/hypothesis
- Structure each results paragraph around question → approach → finding → brief interpretation
- Require quantitative details: n values, statistics, effect sizes, and variability measures
- Preserve author voice: suggest changes without inventing claims or meaning
Example use cases
- Transform a lab manuscript into a submission-ready draft with tracked edits
- Turn reviewer feedback into a clear revision plan with prioritized actions
- Edit a student’s draft to tighten the introduction and highlight the main finding
- Check a manuscript for overclaiming and add appropriate hedging language
- Format and check a paper against target journal requirements (word limits, headings)
FAQ
Provide the manuscript draft, target journal (if known), and any specific concerns or reviewer comments to prioritize.
Will you rewrite my paper or change my conclusions?
I edit for clarity and structure and mark suggested rewrites, but I will not invent results or change the meaning of conclusions; any new wording is suggested and clearly indicated.
