Overview
This skill creates detailed, usable character profiles to build consistent, believable characters for fiction. It delivers background, personality, motivations, relationships, a clear character arc, plus practical tools for consistency and dialogue. Use it to clarify a character’s role and track development across a story.
How this skill works
First, I ask for the character’s role (protagonist, antagonist, or supporting) and any existing notes. I generate a complete profile using a structured framework: basic info, personality, background, motivations, relationships, and a plotted arc. The output includes a consistency checklist, a character-specific dialogue style guide, and chapter-by-chapter tracking suggestions.
When to use it
- At the start of outlining a novel or screenplay
- When converting a character idea into a full profile
- To diagnose inconsistencies during revisions
- When preparing character-driven scenes or dialogue
- To onboard co-writers or editors to a character’s voice
Best practices
- Provide the character’s role and any key plot points before generation
- Share sample scenes or dialogue if you have them for tone matching
- Decide on one personality framework (e.g., Big Five) for consistency
- Use the checklist after each draft pass to catch drift
- Log major moments per chapter to monitor arc progression
Example use cases
- Create a protagonist profile that highlights a clear internal need vs external goal
- Develop an antagonist whose motives are sympathetic and believable
- Build a supporting cast with distinct voices and relationship dynamics
- Generate a dialogue guide so each character speaks distinctly across scenes
- Track character changes across a multi-episode or multi-chapter project
FAQ
Yes. The framework is genre-agnostic and adapts detail emphasis (e.g., skills for fantasy, job details for contemporary).
Will it keep a character consistent across many chapters?
It provides a checklist and chapter-tracking recommendations to help you maintain consistency; regular updates after revisions are recommended.
