Overview

This skill optimizes web content to increase its chances of being cited by AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. It balances traditional SEO with Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) tactics to make content quotable, verifiable, and easily parsed by AI. Use it to improve visibility in AI-generated answers while preserving SEO value.

How this skill works

The skill audits content for GEO readiness using CORE-EEAT priorities: direct answers, structured FAQs, data tables, schema, original data, and summary boxes. It then applies targeted changes—clear definitions, quotable statements, authority signals, structured Q&A, factual density, and proper citations—to boost AI citation likelihood. When available, connected tools can surface real citation patterns and competitor citation data; otherwise the workflow runs from user-provided URLs or content text.

When to use it

  • You want content to appear in AI overviews or chat responses
  • Optimizing existing pages for AI citations and extractability
  • Creating new articles designed for both SEO and GEO
  • Improving authority signals, citations, and factual density
  • Structuring content (FAQ, tables, summaries) for AI comprehension
  • Auditing content to prioritize GEO quick wins and track progress

Best practices

  • Lead with a direct answer in the first 150 words for quick extraction
  • Add 25–50 word, standalone definitions that can be quoted
  • Include specific statistics, dates, and named sources for verifiability
  • Add FAQ sections with JSON-LD FAQ schema for question-answer mapping
  • Provide author bylines, expert quotes, and original first-party data when possible
  • Use tables, numbered steps, and summary boxes to increase extractability

Example use cases

  • Convert a long blog post into AI-quotable form with a top-line summary, definition box, and FAQ
  • Refresh product pages with concise feature comparisons and cited statistics to appear in AI comparisons
  • Audit a pillar page and add authority signals: expert quote, source citations, and original data highlights
  • Create GEO-ready landing pages for high-value queries where AI visibility is a priority
  • Generate quotable one-liners and facts to seed social posts and increase chance of being extracted by chat responses

FAQ

Provide the target queries, the page URL or full content text, and any known competitor examples cited by AI. Connected tools can supply citation patterns automatically.

Will GEO changes hurt my SEO rankings?

No. GEO optimizations focus on structure, factual density, and citations that also support SEO. The approach preserves meta and keyword strategy while improving AI extractability.
