Granite raises €4M seed to build sovereign AI cloud infrastructure in Europe
Granite, a European sovereign cloud infrastructure provider purpose-built for AI workloads, has raised €4 million in seed funding. The round was led by Bifrost Studios, the Copenhagen venture studio within which the company was built.
What Granite Does
Granite describes its offering as an "agentic cloud" — a stack that fuses compute, storage, networking and GPU capacity with the company's own operating and AI-orchestration software. Rather than operating solely as a conventional hyperscale-style provider, Granite ships its infrastructure as containerised modular datacentres that can be deployed wherever power is available.
Customers have two primary paths to consume the platform:
- Ownership: Customers can own a GraniteCloud micro-data centre outright, giving them direct control over the physical infrastructure.
- Network consumption: Customers can consume sovereign compute, storage and an agentic runtime across the GraniteNet network.
The platform is described as open source and model-agnostic. That positioning is aimed squarely at regulated sectors operating under European frameworks including NIS2, DORA and the EU AI Act — buyers for whom data residency, jurisdictional control and auditability are not optional features but baseline requirements.
Why Sovereign AI Infrastructure Matters
The timing of the raise reflects a broader shift in how European enterprises and public-sector organisations are approaching AI deployment. As AI workloads move from experimentation into production, the question of where compute runs — and under whose legal jurisdiction — has become a procurement issue rather than a purely technical one.
Granite's modular approach addresses a specific constraint: AI datacentre capacity is increasingly gated by access to power rather than by access to land or capital. By designing containerised datacentres that can be sited wherever power is available, Granite is positioning itself to serve customers who cannot wait for traditional hyperscale capacity in established European regions.
The combination of owned hardware and a networked runtime also gives Granite two distinct commercial motions — one-time infrastructure sales and recurring consumption revenue across GraniteNet.
Leadership
Granite is led by co-founders Peter Damm (CEO) and Kristof De Spiegeleer. The company was built within Bifrost Studios, a Copenhagen-based venture studio, which also led the seed round.

What to Watch
The seed funding gives Granite runway to develop its agentic cloud stack and expand deployment of its modular datacentre model. For acquirers and strategic investors tracking European sovereign infrastructure, the company sits at the intersection of three active consolidation themes: AI compute capacity, data sovereignty compliance, and edge-deployable modular datacentres.
Key questions for the coming period include how quickly Granite can convert regulated-sector demand into deployed capacity, and whether the GraniteNet network model attracts third-party operators — a dynamic that would determine whether Granite scales as an infrastructure owner, a software platform, or both.
