Cotierra Raises $3M Seed Led by PINC for Decentralised Biochar Systems
Cotierra Secures $3M Seed Round
Cotierra, a Zurich-based climate technology company, has raised $3 million in Seed funding. The round was led by PINC, with participation from Carbon Drawdown Initiative, Zürcher Kantonalbank, Better Ventures, Triple Impact Ventures, Carbon Removal Partners, GOTA Ventures, and Hungry4Impact.
What Cotierra Does
Cotierra develops decentralised biochar systems for agricultural value chains. Its integrated hardware and software platform converts residual biomass into biochar close to where it is generated, returning carbon to the soil while supporting the monitoring, traceability, and verification of production.
The company first proved its model in coffee and is now expanding across other tropical commodities such as cocoa, cotton, and citrus. By doing so, Cotierra helps food and beverage companies strengthen farmer productivity and resilience while cutting supply-chain emissions.

Why This Matters for Acquisition
The Seed round provides Cotierra with capital to scale its decentralised biochar systems across new agricultural value chains. For acquirers in climate tech, agtech, or carbon removal, Cotierra offers a differentiated hardware-software platform that addresses both soil health and supply-chain emissions. Its focus on monitoring, traceability, and verification aligns with growing corporate demand for verifiable carbon removal and sustainable sourcing.
The involvement of a broad investor syndicate—including climate-focused funds and a major Swiss bank—signals confidence in Cotierra's model and its potential to expand beyond coffee into cocoa, cotton, and citrus. This positions the company as a strategic target for players looking to integrate decentralised biochar production into their agricultural or carbon markets offerings.
