R2Crete raises AUD 750K pre-seed to scale recycled concrete technology
R2Crete Secures AUD 750,000 Pre-Seed Funding
R2Crete, a University of Melbourne spinout, has raised AUD 750,000 in pre-seed funding. The round was backed by Uniseed and the University of Melbourne Genesis Pre-Seed Fund. No lead investor was disclosed.
What R2Crete Does
R2Crete recycles waste concrete into supplementary cementitious material (SCM) and high-quality aggregates for new concrete production. The company's modular, containerised process was developed by co-founder Dr Tuan Nguyen with Warren Overton and Professor Mahdi Disfani. According to the company, the technology recovers up to 75% of the cement in waste concrete and cuts emissions by about 50% compared with conventional concrete.
Commercialisation Plans
R2Crete is building a pilot commercial plant to validate the technology at commercial scale. Field trials are planned from early 2027. The company is targeting an estimated 7 million tonnes of concrete waste generated in Australia each year.

Acquisition Perspective
R2Crete operates at the intersection of construction waste recycling and low-carbon materials. Its modular process could be deployed across demolition and construction sites, potentially reducing landfill reliance and emissions. For acquirers in construction materials, waste management, or cleantech, R2Crete offers a university-backed technology with a defined pilot path and a large addressable waste stream in Australia. The involvement of Uniseed and the University of Melbourne Genesis Pre-Seed Fund signals early institutional validation. As the company moves toward commercial-scale validation and field trials in 2027, it may become an attractive target for players seeking to integrate circular concrete solutions into their portfolios.
