Thrixel raises $3M seed for AI-native 3D creation platform

Thrixel Raises $3M Seed Round

Thrixel, a Chicago-based AI-native 3D creation platform, has raised a $3 million seed round. Investors in the round include Jon Barron, Harper Court Ventures, Sierra Ventures, MFV Partners, Z5 Capital and Matt Bilbey.

The company was founded by Rana Hanocka, a computer science professor at the University of Chicago.

What Thrixel Does

Thrixel generates structured, part-aware 3D assets. Each component is individually named, so AI agents and creators can identify, manipulate and animate assets directly in engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Roblox and Three.js.

The platform combines vision language models, agentic pipelines and generative diffusion. Its Build World workflow lets AI coding agents build interactive 3D experiences.

Target Markets

Thrixel is engaging partners across game development, interactive media, robotics and simulation. These are markets where structured, editable 3D assets matter: game studios need assets that can be animated and manipulated in-engine, while robotics and simulation teams need part-aware models they can work with programmatically.

Why It Matters for Acquirers

Thrixel's part-aware approach to 3D generation is a differentiator in a crowded generative 3D space. Rather than producing monolithic meshes, the platform produces assets whose named components can be addressed by AI agents and creators inside standard engines.

For strategic buyers, the company offers:

  • A founder with deep academic credentials in computer science
  • A technical stack spanning vision language models, agentic pipelines and generative diffusion
  • Engine-level integration with Unity, Unreal Engine, Roblox and Three.js
  • A Build World workflow aimed at AI-driven creation of interactive 3D experiences
  • Early partner engagement across game development, interactive media, robotics and simulation

The seed round gives Thrixel capital to develop its platform and partner pipeline. Its position at the intersection of generative AI and 3D content creation makes it a relevant target for acquirers in gaming infrastructure, interactive media tooling, and simulation.
