Charter Space Raises $5M Seed Led by Crystal Venture Partners
Charter Space Secures $5M Seed Round
Charter Space, a space insurance and mission-management company based in El Segundo, California, has raised $5 million in Seed funding. The round was led by Crystal Venture Partners, with participation from QED Investors, Gaingels, Hustle Fund, and Blank Ventures. The funding date is September 30, 2026.
What Charter Space Does
Founded in 2021 by Yuk Chi Chan and Yukun Yin, Charter Space operates at the intersection of space mission software and insurance. Its Ubik platform unifies mission planning, compliance, and technical data for satellite teams. The company pairs that data with a nationally licensed insurance brokerage offering pre-launch, launch, and on-orbit coverage.
The brokerage serves more than 50 companies across the US space and defense industrial base. Charter Space's stated aim is to make satellite underwriting faster and cheaper by combining operational mission data with insurance placement.
The Opportunity
Satellite operators face a fragmented landscape for mission planning, regulatory compliance, and risk transfer. Charter Space addresses this by consolidating technical and compliance data into a single platform while providing direct access to insurance coverage. This integrated approach is designed to reduce friction for satellite teams and give underwriters better data on which to base policies.
