Watu is a Nairobi-headquartered asset-financing company founded in 2015 that provides credit for income-generating and connectivity assets: motorcycles and three-wheelers through its mobility business and smartphones through its Watu Simu unit. It operates in ten markets across Africa and Latin America, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, the DRC, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Mexico and Brazil, and has originated more than 7 million loans while disbursing over $1 billion in credit through a network of more than 4,000 registered dealerships. The company is also expanding into electric-motorcycle financing in select African markets as part of a push into cleaner mobility.
