TrapDtek is a London-based safety-technology startup building wearable rescue indicators for first responders working in hazardous, signal-degraded environments such as collapsed structures, dense smoke or remote wilderness. Its self-charging device harvests radio-frequency energy so it stays powered without cables or battery swaps, and rescue teams can activate it remotely from up to roughly 10 km away, making the wearable emit a high-intensity light that helps triangulate the wearer even when they are unconscious or immobilized. Founded by Hunter McFarlane and incubated at the Royal College of Art innovation arm InnovationRCA, the company won an Innovate UK Catalyst grant in 2025, completed Ofcom-licensed field trials in Snowdonia in 2026, and is now backed by the RCA Design & Innovation S/EIS Fund.
