Story, developed by PIP Labs, is a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2022 by S.Y. Lee and Jason Zhao that operates an intellectual-property blockchain: creators register IP on-chain, embed licensing and royalty terms in smart contracts, and get compensated when their content is used or remixed, including by generative-AI systems. The company monetizes through network fees and reported more than 200 developer teams and over 20 million addressable IPs on its platform while still in beta. Its $80M Series B was led by a16z crypto at a reported $2.25B post-money valuation, with Polychain Capital and angel investors also participating.
