Neela Biotech is a Cambridge, UK startup, incorporated in April 2025 by CEO Deepanshu Singh and co-founder Friederike Nintzel, that produces sustainable aviation fuel through its Controlled Microbial Upcycling (CMU) process: AI-guided microbes paired with anaerobic digestion convert food, agricultural and forestry waste into fatty acids, a drop-in precursor for HEFA-based jet fuel. Rather than building new plants, the company installs its system inside existing biogas plants, lowering the capital cost of scaling SAF and targeting cost parity with fossil jet fuel. Pre-seed funding led by climate investor Elbow Beach is taking the technology from the lab into a pilot-scale trial at a working biogas plant.
