Modulate is a Boston-based frontier audio AI company building audio-native models that help machines understand voice conversations beyond the words being spoken. Its flagship Velma platform uses an Ensemble Listening Model architecture orchestrating more than 100 specialized audio models to detect emotion, tone, intent and synthetic speech in real time, powering transcription, deepfake detection, voice agent supervision and trust and safety use cases such as fraud prevention and voice chat moderation. Founded in 2017 by MIT alumni Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman, the company first became known for its ToxMod voice moderation used in Call of Duty and has analyzed more than 600 million hours of audio.
