Whelix (legal name MitoAI, Inc.) is a Boston-based robotics startup building intelligent, modular robotic systems for wet-lab automation, targeting the manual bottlenecks of mammalian cell culture for biotech and pharma labs. Its flagship Associan workcell runs feeding, passaging, imaging and plating around the clock under Willow, an AI agent that plans and monitors workflows, complemented by the benchtop Teknician platform. Founded in 2023 by Carnegie Mellon-affiliated engineers including CEO Bingda Li and CTO Xinyu Wang, the company has raised backing from Draper Associates and was named to the MassRobotics 2026 Healthcare Robotics Startup Catalyst cohort.
