MicroLub is a University of Leeds spinout founded in 2023 by Professor Anwesha Sarkar that develops protein-based biolubricant ingredients to replace fats and oils in food and personal care products. Its patented microgel technology recreates the mouthfeel of fat using water and protein, enabling manufacturers to cut fat and calories by up to 75 percent while increasing protein and simplifying ingredient lists. Based at Nexus in Leeds, the company has scaled from lab to industrial manufacturing and works with some of the largest food and ingredient companies globally.
