FluoRok is a University of Oxford spin-out founded in 2022 that manufactures fluorochemicals without hazardous hydrogen fluoride (HF), using a patented mechanical activation process that runs on off-the-shelf industrial equipment and can process lower-grade mined fluorspar or fluoride recovered from industrial waste streams. Its initial products are inorganic fluorides for pharmaceutical and agrochemical applications and lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6), the most common electrolyte salt in lithium-ion batteries. Led by founder and CEO Dr Gabriele Pupo from Oxford, UK, the company targets safer, lower-cost fluorochemical production with less reliance on China-dominated fluorspar supply chains.
