Eight Knot Inc. is a Japanese maritime-technology startup founded in 2021 and headquartered in Osaka that develops autonomous navigation systems for small vessels. Its flagship platform, AI CAPTAIN, retrofits onto existing boats and provides real-time situational awareness, self-localization, route generation and collision avoidance, while a modular version lets marine-equipment makers embed the same functions into their products. The system has been deployed on vessels operating in the Seto Inland Sea and demonstrated autonomously in the Port of Tokyo, and the company is now pushing productization with marine-equipment makers and expansion into North America and Southeast Asia.
