CrofaBiotech is an Argentine deep-tech biotech incubated at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biotecnologicas of UNSAM that develops gene-edited pigs to produce transplant organs, initially kidneys and hearts, compatible with the human immune system. Founded in 2022 by Adrián Mutto, Adrián Abalovich and Mariela Balbo, the company produced the first cloned pig in Latin America carrying a triple genetic knockout against immune rejection in April 2026, validated its cell lines with reference centers in the United States, and produces 200-300 cloned embryos per week. It plans to monetize through international licensing of its gene-editing platform alongside local production of organs under standardized sanitary norms.
