BionicM is a University of Tokyo spin-off founded in December 2018 by CEO Xiaojun Sun, a prosthetic user himself, that develops and sells powered prosthetic legs by fusing humanoid robotics technology with the human body. Its flagship product, the Bio Leg, is a motor-driven microprocessor prosthetic knee that actively assists knee flexion and extension; it is FDA Class II registered and approved for US insurance reimbursement, with US sales handled through the BionicM USA subsidiary since 2024. The company states it is one of only about three players worldwide with a commercialized powered prosthetic leg, and its next-generation product ASISTA is slated for a 2027 US market launch.
