Adden Energy is a Waltham, Massachusetts-based battery developer spun out of Harvard in 2022 by professor Xin Li with then-doctoral students William Fitzhugh (CEO) and Luhan Ye (CTO), together with Primavera Capital founder Fred Hu. It develops lithium-metal solid-state EV batteries built on a self-healing solid-state separator and porous lithium-metal anode discovered at Harvard, targeting roughly double the range, 10-minute charging and 5,000-10,000-cycle lifetimes at about 30% lower cost per kilowatt-hour than conventional lithium-ion cells. The company commissioned a roll-to-roll pilot production line at its Waltham headquarters in February 2025 and is scaling the technology for automakers as well as drones, robotics and data-center applications.
