AcouBatt is a London-based battery diagnostics startup spun out of University College London in 2025 by Dr Arthur Fordham and Chris Haoxin Xu. It pairs acoustic-emission sensors with AI to monitor activity inside battery cells in real time, helping manufacturers shorten formation, cut scrap and catch defects that conventional voltage-based testing can miss. The technology grew out of Fordham's PhD research at UCL's Electrochemical Innovation Lab under the Faraday Institution-backed SafeBatt project, and its sensors are currently being benchmarked at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre, with future applications in battery energy storage and electric vehicles.
